Happy to see my photo used outside of internal Army publications! I was lucky to catch this homecoming kiss as shortly after it was taken, the dogs took off running across the field and a search and rescue (not really) was engaged to catch them. :)

Thank you for the evaluation.

I felt fortunate to be able to tell Dorothy Davis's story. I was planning to write an article to let our community know about an upcoming Women's History Month luncheon, and my editor mentioned that we have a civilian on post whose mother served in the WAC. When I started interviewing for what was intended to be a "sidebar," I realized it was a feature all its own.

I wrote in more of a chronological, story-telling format because I felt the idea of a young girl, out of college, looking for work during the winter, during wartime, was evocative. Considering her added challenges based on racial and sexual discrimination prevalent at that time, I thought presenting a difficult situation up front was the most telling lead.

This is one of the few stories where I can honestly say it nearly wrote itself. The wonderful retelling Carmen Davis presented added significantly to the interest and pacing of the piece. I followed the story to its natural end, closing with the 90-year-old veteran's reflection on her time of service.

Thank you for your comments regarding my article. The headline was intentionally aggressive to attract the attention of the reader and I feel that it was effective. I disagree that the tone against any participation continues through most of the article. From the beginning, the article highlights the potential hazards that posting too much information can cause and encourages people to think before they post. As a former Soldier, military spouse and DoD civilian, the safety of our Soldiers and their Families is an extremely important issue to me.

Thank you for the kudos; it is very much appreciated! I used an off-camera flash that I held high and to the left. I chose to focus on the repair work of the hydraulics because I felt specialized aircraft maintenance is something the public doesn’t see enough of. After all, there’s so much more to what our Air Force does than just fly. It was an honor to be able to showcase what our maintenance specialists do every day. Our wing commander, a pilot himself, will be the first to tell anyone it’s maintainers who keep jets in the air so what they do is extremely important. Thanks again for the feedback.

Soldeiers of Company B are special forces and if there is one thing about special forces, you will rarely see "action shots"

Thank you for your compliment. My son is one of the picture and is rather "modest" about the event.
